Peter Suma is Managing Partner of the StrongNorth Fund at BDC Capital, based in Toronto. As part of BDC’s Defence Platform, he leads investments in Canadian early‑stage companies developing deep technologies with defence‑focused or dual‑use applications aligned with Canada’s Defence Industrial Strategy, across sectors such as aerospace, AI‑enabled systems, advanced manufacturing, space, and autonomous technologies. Peter brings over 25 years of experience as a venture investor, company builder, and senior executive across defence‑relevant technology domains including artificial intelligence, robotics, semiconductors, and advanced systems. He has founded and scaled multiple deep‑tech companies, served on more than 20 boards, and held CEO and co‑CEO roles, notably at Applied Brain Research, where he advanced commercialization through partnerships with global technology leaders and collaboration with U.S. defence and national security agencies. He holds degrees from the University of Chicago, University of Toronto, University of Waterloo, Osgoode Hall, and the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD).
